The Desert of the Mad Man was written when François Lefort was a doctor in Foum-Gléita, in the heart of the Mauritanian desert, between 1986 and 1989. On the edge of the inhabited world, in this total destitution, confronted with the extreme fragility of human life, he had the powerful experience of meeting this "Presence" to the search for which he dedicated his life.
