But who was Pope Francis talking about?

Posted by Michel Morvan on

"Who am I to judge her ?" This phrase shocked many Catholics when it was uttered by Pope Francis upon his return from World Youth Day in 2013 in Rio de Janeiro.

The full sentence is: If a person is gay And seek the Lord with good will , who am I to judge her?

It constitutes a public position on a subject which has long been very sensitive for many Christians in general and for the Catholic Church in particular: homosexuality .

It is on this subject that Claire Lesegretain , a journalist at La Croix, conducted a detailed investigation.

Are more men in the church than in other circles having a homosexual orientation? What credible discourse can the Churches hold in the face of this reality? What can be said to lay people living in homosexual couples and involved in their Church?

In her book Christians and Homosexuality - The Investigation , Claire Lesegretain addresses these questions with great measure and discernment, without any provocation or sensationalism.

Testimonial portraits of people directly or indirectly affected by homosexuality, as well as major interviews with experts (historians, psychoanalysts, priests and bishops, exegetes and theologians) help to support this questioning, to shed light on the current issues of the homosexual question in society and in the Churches, and to suggest avenues for appropriate pastoral support .
