Abandoned populations, trust the German soldier!

Posted by Michel Morvan on

Abandoned populations , trust the German soldier !”

When was this tempting announcement made?

From the period of the occupation of France by Germany, of course! And even a little before, in fact! This apostrophe appears in large letters on a German propaganda poster, posted in France from June 1940.

It is in this occupied France that Christophe Vieu brings to life the hero of his work La belle âme . In a beautiful interweaving of stories, with his rare pen , mistress of rhythmic and musical sentences, he skillfully distils the atmosphere of the first steps of the Second World War in France. In this particular context, he makes us experience the forbidden friendship between a French teenager and a young German occupier. Fine and light descriptions of characters on a historical backdrop with dark tones nourish a sensitive story with disturbing gentleness .
